Winter

SNOW, SWEET SNOW...

Winter holidays in the Val di Non mean relaxation and quiet wellbeing. Unlike the hectic and crowded winter resorts of the Alpine region, the Val di Non is the ideal destination for visitors wishing to rediscover a genuine winter stay in the mountains, surrounded by appeasing woods, quaint hamlets fragrant with the smell of traditional products and pleasant but not-too-challenging sports activities.

Accordingly, our not-too-large ski areas are particularly suited for families with children and for slow-paced or first-time skiers. Nordic skiing, Alpine skiing and snowboarding can all be enjoyed on the valley easy and easily accessible slopes.
Numerous other activities organised for family groups such as ice-skating, children’s parks in the snow and thrilling rides on horse-drawn sleighs round off the valley winter offer.

Snowshoes are the strong point of a sports holiday in the Val di Non. The valley can be considered their Italian “home”, as snowshoes were invented here and later rediscovered thanks to the famous “Ciaspolada”. The valley forests and its gentle mountain slopes dotted with Alpine refuges are the perfect destination for your snowshoes trekking with family and friends!

Ski touring

Enjoy the thrill of waking up at dawn to go climbing the highest mountains with family or friends, up where silence reigns, in its pure snow-covered regenerating natural realm… Take up the challenge of pushing your physical limits and resisting the biting cold in the high mountains. Enjoy the satisfying reward of reaching altitudes with indescribable views

Ski touring is this and much more: a challenging sport everyone can practice, with some training and the right equipment.

For more thrilling tracks visit the Maddalene website, the Val di Non mountain range with the most panoramic peaks and the less crowded tracks... It’s simply impossible to resist them!

Snowshoes

A bean-shaped core made of ash and a wattle of hemp lacings: these are the snowshoes of the Val di Non, the footwear used to walk on the fresh snow among the woods: Until some ten years ago they were only used by lumberjacks and peasants for work, but today they are popular for fun, to follow animal spoors and walk among vast pine forests.

Walk through the woods of the Val di Non with your snowshoes on… If you left them at home, you can always rent them at one of the many sports equipment rentals: Enjoy!

Don’t forget snowshoes – locally called "ciaspole" – are the protagonist of the yearly Ciaspolada, the not-to-be-missed non-competitive run with snowshoes!

2009 – 2010 news! This year you can choose among many guided tours: discover them all!

Here are some suggestions about tracks specifically designed for snowshoes hiking and marked with trail signs:

THE WALK OF RECORDS...

The Ciaspolada is the “queen” Italian sports events on the snow. It is run on a completely snow-covered track of about 7 Km among some of the most scenic views of the high Val di Non. This run is really open to everyone: sports people, families, professionals and grandparents... On condition they wear a pair of snowshoes!!

Both athletes and hikers can participate in this run - included in the European Cup. The Ciaspolada definitely is the most special winter event in Trentino as well as the event that over the years attracted the largest number of participants: Only 18 competitors participated in the first edition, but there were 6,300 – coming from 19 different countries – in the latest.

The route, of approx. 7 km, runs between the villages of Romeno and Fondo.

VAL DI NON: ONE SKIPASS MANY SLOPES

With the new single ski-pass skiers can take all the ski-lifts in the valley and pre-pay their skiing time by the hour

VAL DI NON, winter 2009/2010 – Great news for skiers in the Val di Non. The ski-lifts company managing the three ski areas (Monte Roen – Mendel Pass, Monte Nock – Ruffrè and Predaia Plateau) joined to offer skiers a comprehensive single ski-pass with prices and terms applying on all the slopes of the valley. With the new SKIPASS DELLA VAL DI NON and the new hourly rates skiers can not only ski on every valley slope of their choice but also pre-pay the ski-time they wish to devote to their favourite sport.

Thanks to the support of their municipal administrations the companies managing the three Val di Non ski areas (Monte Roen – Mendel Pass, Monte Nock – Ruffrè and Predaia Plateau) are launching an important novelty for the winter 2009/2010. The single ski-pass is designed to integrate the local skiing offers allowing sports people a freer and wider choice of slopes and opportunities to enjoy their ski-time. From today it is possible to ski in the whole Val di Non using a single ski-pass valid for both day- and night-time skiing (night-time ski slopes are on Monte Nock in Ruffrè and on the Predaia Plateau), as well as for the children’s amusement parks on the snow “Nevelandia Roen” and “Predaia Park”.
Also, thanks to the new hourly rates skiers can decide in advance how much time and money they’ll invest in their favourite sport. Skiers can pre-pay (minimum) 2 to (maximum) 25 ski-hours and accordingly take all the ski-lifts of the Val di Non. Prepaid hours acquired in the winter 2009/2010 are valid until the end of the season.
The single ski-pass is a significant advantage for skiers who like to change ski area: With the single ski-pass they can try out all the slopes and facilities in the valley without time nor space constraints.

The new ski-pass does not imply the single ski areas in the valley will change: Each will keep its core characteristics and continue targeting its clientele. The Predaia Plateau slopes shall remain a favourite destination for young skiers thanks to its vast area, state-of-the-art Solarium and modern entertainment; “Monte Roen”, near the Mendel Pass, will continue appealing first-timers and family groups, also thanks to the colourful “Nevelandia Roen” amusement park on the snow. And by virtue of its ad hoc snowboarding facilities Monte Nock - near Ruffrè - shall become the main destination for more challenging expert skiers and snowboarders.
